MySpace and Parenting

I'm currently reading a book entitled, MySpace MyKids, by Jason Illian. There are some insightful points in the first section that I read. The emphasis is basically that MySpace isn't the problem. The problem is parents who have abdicated their role as parent and desire to remove the opportunities for temptation (MySpace, etc) rather than talking through issues with their teens. I think we see this all too often. Whether it be MySpace, movies, music or a number of social avenues, it's easier for a parent to punt and say no to these things than to parent a teen through their choices.

How do we get the parents to parent? Even in church parents run here and there pursuing mammon so they can have things and pay for house cleaning, lawn care, sports teams, BMWs, extra garage, etc.? What will get them to slow down so they can shepherd their kids?
Kinda fun my first blog comment.
