She's Here

Sunday, December 25, 2005

After months of anticipation, Kate Marie Cagle is now here. She was born on 12/22 in the afternoon. She was actually born on her due date, which I understand is pretty rare. Mom and baby are doing great. I'll put one picture here, but I know that most of you aren't that concerned, but if you want to see more, I've set up a site that I'll try to keep updated with recent photos. Thanks to all of you who have been praying for Mindy and me. We really appreciate it. It is the most humbling and sobering experience to look at this little life are realize that I am responsible for her. I have to admit, I look forward to the days when we can sit and talk about God, Christ, the gospel, sin and salvation. I am praying now for her that she would come to love the Lord at an early age. I can now join with all the other parents and just say if you haven't experienced it, there really is no way to explain it. I have had new insights into unconditional love over these short few days. My love is so conditional. I love b/c of the benefit it gets me, or for what someone offers me. Yet there is this little life that I love and for no other reason than who she is. Not based on any merit. She is mine, therefore I love her. Don't get me wrong, this isn't dutiful love, this is really love not under compulsion but with joy. Isn't this how God loved us? Not even b/c we were cute (we're far from morally cute), or good (see Titus 3, Eph 2, Rom 7), but just b/c HE chose to love. He loves us b/c of the merit of Christ, b/c we are now HIS sons. We can say with John, behold what manner of love that we could be called sons of God!

Blessings as you adjust to parenthood and lack of sleep!
